It's actually taken me a while to work up the courage to message you. I feel like a dork but whatever. I saw you guys at the 9:30 club (first night) and while I was waiting outside each time you passed all I could say was "hi" I wanted to say more like "your music saved my life..." but I didn't really have the words or the nerve. So thank you for everything your music has done for me. Thank you for the set list! That was the happiest I'd ever been. Do you ever remember the people at your shows?
aw thanks for the nice note. if you were the one that nathan and i walked by and asked what ya were reading, then yes i remember. glad ya had a good time at the show. we did too, dc is one of my favorite places to play and visit. be well.
I finally invested in a proper setup for listening to vinyl and god damn, does your bass sound good. I wanna know all your secrets but I am not the type to open my presents on x-mas eve. The rhythm section just stands out so much on this album, and to me, that is CWK. Bass, drums, soul, etc Cheers buddy
you ever listen to charles mingus play the bass? i’m sure you have.
sometimes i just feel like i NEED to see you guys live. i mean, it's like a drug. do you never feel this awful missing of one gig? memories are not enough. please, tell me you're coming back in france soon, i need one of your shows. by the way, these things you share are still so good. thank you!
i think know how you feel. i have multiple tom waits bootlegs from the bone machine era and every single time i hear any of them, i think about how i wished my 13 year old self would have had the older cousin or uncle to take me to LA to see the show. i need tom waits 1992 shows like you need more every man i fall for, or at least it sounds like. don’t even get me started on the clash or birthday party shows i missed when i was 4. i empathize with you. oh, and thankyou for the gift you sent me. i just now received your nice little handmade architecture book you sent to me, along with those postcards. thankyou so much! it was lovely and lovely to receive.
hi, so I have an odd proposal: CWK is a huge inspiration in my life. To sum this up, I've found a strong connection to the song "hospital beds". Seeing as you are so good to fans of your music and art, I was wondering if i could ask you to write "the joy and misery" in the same style of the crayon mine is yours art. multiple iterations would be preferred, and i wont be hurt if you dont send it :) please if you find the time, send to Colin Wilson, 29 Juniper dr. Windsor Locks, CT, 06096 thanks :)
ain’t no thing. i’ll pop something in the mail when i get a chance. i like that track too.
What's the best way to overcome stagefright? to write songs?
i only had stage fright one time and it was when we played with autolux at the natural history museum in los angeles. we played in front of all the taxidermy bison. it was slight;y terrifying having all of those bison behind you. i think that was the cure. if i ever get scared, i just think of all the bison and how they’ll never be at a show again. thats the worst thing i could imagine. i know the bass lines and thats all there is to it. thanks for your q. be well mae mae tay tay. hell of a name you got there.
totally random i know, but i have a proposition for you.... have had some trouble finding an acl ticket because i lost my job. but have been trying to sell one of my vintage guitars to get one. i am running out of time but if one of you guys wants it i would gladly trade it for a ticket if you have any for frivolous things....
wow. sorry ya didn’t make it. i guess i’m too late on checkin my tumblr. sorry mate. hope ya made it in
Matt, I just got the t-shirt and postcards in the mail! I'm ecstatic! Thank you! It totally made up for the crappy week I had. Interesting I got it today, though, because I was at work earlier, a mom-and-pop used-books store, and I came across Joan Didion's "A Book of Common Prayer," SIGNED by Didion. I thought, "I wonder if Maust would accept his in place of the shirt I was going to print for him." Because it'll be a while before I can actually print it. But I'll do both if you want the book..?
i’ll take whatever ya got my man (or woman). i don’t have that book and signatures are nice. thanks! but if you ever get around to makin that shirt, i’ll wear it proudly you can bet on it.
hi mm. with Instagram and twitter and all of these other sites which give you the option of providing your (almost) exact location, don't you worry that music lovers and slightly stalkerish people, such as myself, might track you down and ask you to buy them a drink or get them into a show or something like that?
Maust--big fan of your music and artwork. I know you are heavily influenced by the poster aesthetic of Europe and thought you might take interest in this local exhibit: "Peace Press Graphics 1967 - 1987: Art in the Pursuit of Social Change." It's located in the University Art Museum at Cal State Long beach and showcases a diverse collection of political posters printed by the Los Angeles based Peace Press Graphics. I visited earlier this week--very inspiring.
i will def check that out. been missing long beach these days. thanks for the heads up!
